FREE ASSOCIATIONS – the journal as described: “Free Associations is a leading peer-reviewed periodical focused on non-clinical aspects of psychoanalysis and related psychodynamic approaches to psychotherapy, politics, media and culture.”
It was the first, ever-only, very-short part of my professional journey that became a pleasure to discover and enjoy (it ended in 2011 after my second paper submission). The people who created it and those who read it, were as interested in my work, as I became with theirs. We excitingly discussed our studied researches, and opened experiential doors to research norms that I had originally assumed would be natural parts of my professional life. I also talked back and forth with the Editor as my papers evolved. And I had a delightful afternoon chat with its founder, Prof. Robert Young, when I was in England for a presentation and took the train to London to speak with him.
The #1 of two papers was published in 2007: Metapsychological Formulation: A New Scientific Method of Psychoanalytic Clinical Research. The #2 could not be found.

FROM AN ART TO A SCIENCE OF PSYCHOANALYSIS: THE METAPSYCHOLOGICAL FORMULATION METHOD: A Scientifically Developed and Tested theory of the Symptom Phenomena of the Psychoanalytic Domain, Its Treatment and Research Applications in the Clinical Situation, and its Explanatory Power in Areas of Human Turmoil Beyond it
Self-published – Trafford Publishing, North America and International
“This book provides a scholarly account of thirty years of systematic, scientific, psychoanalytic research, and a precise new method for formulating and addressing treatment material developed from the findings. It describes a broad range of integrated original theories, all of which have been extensively tested for predictive capability and supported with detailed examples.
In addition to its use as a textbook for therapists, it will be of interest to cognition-emotion researchers, sociologists, students of the artistic creative process, professional regulatory bodies, and lay people curious about the individual and interactive psychological problems of everyday life. It will also be of use to organizations and governments that are attempting to understand and influence the root sources of destructive aggression in the world at large.”
